Communion---A Ritual?

Luke 22:19 (NKJV) "This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me."

If you have followed my blogs for any length of time, or you have read my books, you know that I am a huge promoter of  communion. It is probably no surprise to many of you, I have communion almost every day. Sometimes even more than once.

This morning I decided to go to a nearby park to fellowship with God. It is springtime here and it was a beautiful morning. When I got to the park, I realized I had not had my communion. I had this urge to go home and have it but then I reminded myself the purpose of it all in the first place.

When I have communion, I like to use the real grape juice and a cracker because that is similar to what Jesus used that night during the Last Supper. The truth be told, it can be just as powerful to use milk and cookies. So why do I like to use real juice and a cracker?

I like to use the real stuff because I find it brings me closer to the perfect example Jesus gave us. It helps establish my relationship with Jesus based on the crucifixion. When I start my day with communion, I am reminded of the great price Jesus paid and the complete fellowship it provided.

I do not allow the event to be a religious ritual. This morning when I began my prayer time, I still had communion. I had no juice or cracker but I went through the process in my mind. I began my prayer time with a comprehension of the price paid and all the benefits. Then I had a wonderful prayer time as always.

I still prefer to have real juice and a cracker. It just seems to help me grasp what Jesus did. I do it regularly so I can also enjoy it without the physical elements.

I love communion. It will never be a ritual to me. It is a great way to start my fellowship with God.

Be blessed!
